Directed By: Felipe Espinosa | Runtime: 12 min | Plays In Short Block: Horror 2

My motivation as director for this story is born for a reason. Because of life circumstances I was working on a TV program about books. There I discovered two facts: the reading as an infinite catalyst of the imagination and its ability to change lives. I observed many cases of people which a book had been key in their lives because it had helped them to open their minds, or to discover their sexual condition, or to guide them if life in general. In this context, I discovered a book that would precisely do in me what I had seen in others: it would take me on an emotional journey and awaken in me the desire to direct a story uniting all these ideas. That’s where the short film Freedom was born. In fact, the book is about Chess Novel by Stefan Zweig and the short film is inspired by one of his most famous scenes. With Freedom my intention has been to explore the limits of hope and in its absence, of despair. For this, we present a physically and mentally submitted character who will find in reading an escape route before submitting to the confines of madness.
